October is Cyber-Security Awareness Month in Canada
Cyber Security Awareness Month (Cyber Month) is an internationally recognized campaign held each October to help the public learn more about the importance of cyber security. The campaign helps Canadians stay secure online by teaching them simple steps to protect themselves and their devices.
I am proud to be a Get Cyber Safe champion, working to help Canadians stay safe online. Cyber Month is an important time to reflect, as individuals on how we can protect ourselves, our business, our audience and our loved ones online. Organizations that I have worked with invest a tremendous amount of effort and money in protecting us but as individuals we needs to do our part as well, and that starts by being cyber-security educated. If you are going to use online/mobile banking, book your own trips using popular booking sites, do online purchases, etc.. you need to become cyber-security aware.

Strong and Unique Passwords
As a first line of defence, using strong and unique passwords for every account and device is one of the best ways to keep your personal information safe.Text for image 1
Multi-Factor Authentication
Passwords are an essential part of staying cyber secure. But they’re not infallible.
Cyber criminals can use various methods to guess, steal, and compromise your passwords.
But multi-factor authentication can help. You can use multi-factor authentication to make it more difficult for cyber criminals to access your devices and accounts. Nowadays, most companies offer multi‑factor authentication features on their products.
Password Managers: A solution to password overload
A strong password is an essential part of keeping your information safe. Unfortunately, it’s often the case that the more complex a password is, the harder it is to remember — especially if you’re using different passwords for every account.
You can easily keep track of all your passwords by using a password manager: a password vault that stores all your usernames and passwords for different websites, apps and devices.
Practice safe social
Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are a great way to stay in touch with family, connect with friends, share news and post photos.
But if you’re not careful with how you use it, social media is also an easy way for cyber criminals to learn more about you. Make sure you take precautions before you post.
